Anesthetic Assistant
Summary:  Assists anesthesia staff in providing anesthetic care. Maintain inventory of anesthetic related materials. Maintain anesthetic equipment in conjunction with Biomedical Technician. Reorders anesthetic supplies to keep the Operating Room sufficiently stocked.

Caring for our patients before, during, and after surgery is the main concern of our anesthesia team. We aim to provide the best possible care to patients and this team is a key element to making sure surgeries are successful. 

The Anesthetic Assistant volunteer position, part of the Hospital, will be located on the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ships. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is two weeks. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum two years experience as:
    • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Anesthetist
    • Registered Nurse with relevant Anesthesia Assistant experience
    • Anesthetic Technician
    • Registered Operating Department Practitioner or equivalent Anesthetic Assistant qualification
  • Airway management (mask ventilation, intubation, LMA placement) and IV cannulation skills helpful, but not required
  • Knowledge of sterile technique
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizations skills
  • Fluent in English
