Program Facilitator-Agriculture
Summary:  Participate in the trainers of trainers from partner agencies to incorporate nutritional elements into their own agriculture production training programs; identifying food crops in their role in health promotion and disease prevention for families.

To truly change the healthcare landscape of Africa, we must get to the source of the problem. Nutrition. Our Agriculture team does just that. Working with partner agencies, the Agriculture Nutrition Facilitator aims to identify nutritional shortcomings and help end them through education and training. While our doctors work to perform as many surgeries as possible, our agriculture team works to ensure none are needed in the future. 

The Program Facilitator - Agriculture volunteer position, part of the Medical Capacity Building team, will be located on the Africa Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is twelve months. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

Qualifications Required:

  • Graduate degree in nutrition or related field preferred and/or 2-3 years of African development experience
  • Significant experience in nutrition education projects in developing nations required
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good networking skills between communities, NGOs, INGOs, and other possible partners
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in French beneficial but not required
  • International Driver's Permit required
