Summary:  Aims to promote Spiritual, Emotional, Relational and Financial Health for all crew.  Chaplaincy's focus is to provide and facilitate pastoral care for all Mercy Ships personnel. Our Goal is to help create an environment for each individual to live in a biblical healthy manner in order to fulfill their purpose in Mercy Ships for as long as the Lord has designed. Our Belief is that by being objective, safe and impartial we can influence, encourage shepherd, teach, counsel and mediate in both proactive and responsive ways.

The primary focus of our onboard Chaplaincy team is to provide and facilitate the appropriate pastoral care for all Mercy Ships crew members. Our servant-hearted chaplains are here to promote spiritual, emotional, relational, and financial health, helping each volunteer fulfill their full potential with Mercy Ships.

The Chaplain volunteer position, part of the Chaplaincy Department, will be located on the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ships. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is two years. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

Qualifications Required:

  • Two or more years of professional ministry experience preferred
  • Some theological education and pastoral training preferred
  • Must have traveled internationally for at least two years and/or have extensive experience living in a multicultural Christian community
