Summary:  Responsible to assist Purser in the daily administration of the associated duties.

The Africa Mercy houses almost 450 volunteers from 35 different nations. With so many nationalities onboard, our Purser team is on hand to take care of any and all travel and contact paperwork for our volunteers. The more organized and efficient our Purser team can be, the better focused our volunteers will be on bringing hope and healing to Africa.  

The Assistant Purser volunteer position, part of the Purser/Reception Department, will be located on the Africa Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is twelve months. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application 6 months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than ten months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program.

Qualifications Required:

  • Successful completion of Security Awareness in accordance with STCW A-VI/6
  • Successful completion of Crowd Management in accordance with STCW A-V/2-1
  • Proficiency in computer business applications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
